BIM.project
The course BIM.project is the consecutive practical part of BIM specialization branch. Based on the theory taught in the course BIM.fundamentals the summer semester, the students practice how to use BIM-authoring software and various simulation and analysis tools in a collaborative design process. Interdisciplinary teams (students of architecture, civil engineering and the course Sustainable and Ressource Efficient Building) will design a building or structure in a cooperative way.
This semester’s project involves designing an aquatic center for the TUM ZHS campus, to be built on the current football fields, covering approximately 28,000 square meters. The building itself should occupy at least 7,000 square meters and be positioned with attention to urban planning factors. The facility should include essential swimming facilities and seating for future sports events.
The main challenge this semester is not only addressing the architectural needs but also creating a detailed design for the wide-spanning roof structure that will cover the pools. The roof must be structurally sound and visually appealing, as well as addressing environmental considerations, such as incorporating low-carbon construction. Therefore, it requires the whole team to work together from the beginning of the semester. The final design should balance structural, aesthetic, and environmental aspects while offering beauty, comfort, and natural light in the swimming area.

The full description of the module can be found on TUMonline. The language of the course is English.
Please note: BIM.fundamentals is not a formal prerequisite of BIM.project. However, students should only attend BIM.project if they either completed BIM.fundamentals or already have a good understanding of BIM methods and software.
Organization
This course is only offered in the winter semester.
The first lecture will take place on 18.10.2024. Attendance is mandatory.
Since only a limited number of places are available, we will prioritize among all registered students according to the following criteria (see below). We will draw lots among the prioritized students for the fixed places. Students who receive a fixed place or a place at the top of the waiting list will be invited by email to the first event. Please only attend if you have received this invitation. We will check attendance at the first lecture in order to be able to fill any places that may become available.
- Students may be chosen on basis of their specialization.
- Registration on waiting list only.
- The time of registering for the course is not relevant for the selection process.
Please register in TUMonline for the course in the respective module BGU65015 and keep an eye on the registration period.
The detailed schedule and relevant course documents are provided on Moodle for all registered participants.
