International Workshop Traditional and Innovative Approaches in Seismic Design 2016-18
16.03.2017 - 18.03.2017
Hosted by the University of Pisa @ School of Engineering, Aula Magna
Aims and Objectives
The aim of the workshop on “Traditional and Innovative Approaches in Seismic Design (TIASD)” is to find a common basis for students of Civil Engineering and Architecture for learning and discussing topics of earthquake engineering. This workshop is organized by the Chair of Structural Mechanics (TUM) and the Department of Architecture, Planning and Design (University of Sassari, Italy); it also involves the Chair of Structural Analysis and Dynamics (RWTH), the Department of Energy, Systems, Territory and Construction Engineering (University of Pisa, Italy) and the Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering (University of Minho, Portugal). The lectures are given by professors, postdocs and PhD students from Germany, Italy and Portugal. This workshop is made up of three blocks: i) basics and fundamentals of earthquake engineering, ii)technical applications of seismic design and iii) aspects of heritage conservation. Extracts of theory are carefully mixed with practical examples, to make the issues understandable and to encourage discussions. An excursion at the city center of Pisa with local experts will complete the program. The scheduled lectures in one of the oldest universities of Italy and spontaneous social events through the city of Pisa will undoubtedly encourage a fruitful exchange of ideas.
