Project description
The volume, variety, and velocity of data have developed rapidly across all areas in recent years. Not only the software industry treats high amounts of data, but also the construction industry deals with large data sets. Indeed, the state-of-the-art BIM methods have largely established themselves in the planning method by merging various data sources and invoking significant optimization potential. In contrast to planning, the as-performed construction process has hardly changed in the last decade concerning digital progress. The execution on the construction site is still intransparent and complex due to the high number of different processes. However, the need for optimization is immense: Operations can be accelerated, disruptions avoided, and damage prevented.
The Data Mining project is created to deal with these challenges and embrace unique digital improvement opportunities. A collaboration with the Innovationsmanagement Bau GmbH supports organizing the embedding of applied research and experimental development, using a network society of medium-sized construction companies to drive the flow of innovation ever forward. Construction projects offer an ideal environment for discovery, as every building is a new creative work within a collaborative community and thus produces various data sources. Ultimately, the Data Mining project faces controlling the considerable amount and variety of data from different sources within Big Data of construction sites while giving insights into unresolved research questions.
