Since the building sector counts among one of the biggest resource consumers, causing a lot of emissions, it is therefore inevitable to avoid, reduce and compensate emissions in this area. Therefore, local and global emissions are considered and potential emission sinks and possibilities of compensation or absorption are shown. Based on a systematic prepared state of research regarding emissions within the building sector, criteria to evaluate emission-based performance of buildings are developed. Furthermore, this research serves in further discussions regarding an emission-free building sector and contributes to awareness of society towards health risks due to emissions during a building’s lifecycle.
The aim is to show society and politics both positive and negative developments of various emissions regarding people and environment. Besides identifying these developments, the purpose is also in evaluating these to initiate holistic measures during the upcoming transformation process towards environmental and climate neutrality.
The project is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection.
