The Great Civil Engineering Excursion 2023 led to the capital of our neighboring country France, to Paris. The city was an obvious destination because the Grand Paris Express, Europe's largest infrastructure project, is currently being realized due to the Olympic Games in 2024, which opens up a wide range of construction site visit opportunities. A total of 40 students from the bachelor's program in civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich, accompanied by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Cudmani and Prof. Dr. Thuro and three research assistants, had the opportunity to gain exciting insights into the tasks of a civil engineer and explore Paris, a city on the pulse of time, from May 30 to June 2, 2023.
The Chair of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, Rock Mechanics, and Tunneling organized the excursion in cooperation with the LBI Förderverein. The realization of the excursion was made possible by the generous financial support of the TUM School of Engineering and Design and numerous companies and institutions, for which we would like to express our sincere thanks.
The report summarizes the numerous impressions and experiences gained during the construction site visits and gives a professional insight into the challenging work of the century project Grand Paris Express.
