Compaction, seal integrity and temperature distribution in the Bavarian Molasse Basin
KompakT is a joint project funded by the Bavarian Environmental Agency between the assistant professorship for geothermal technology GTT and the Chair of hydrogeology.
We are working on work package 2, which deals with the interpretation of temperature data in the Bavarian Molasse Basin, as well as an estimation of heat storage potentials. For this, the rock temperatures and the thermal rock properties have to be known. For the determination of the rock temperature, relevant parameters for the temperature prognosis will be collected (BHT measurement, temp-log, mud duration, TOP-Malm, etc.) and sensitivity analyses will be performed on the corrections for the quantitative determination of the uncertainty range. Subsequently, temperature gradients will be estimated and temperatures in the project area will be regionalized. Much focus will be placed on a detailed presentation of the uncertainties in the temperature forecast and the error propagation from the temperature measurement to the extrapolation of the regionalization, as this is given little to no attention in existing temperature models.
The temperatures and results of the compaction analysis shall be used as input parameters in a basin modeling exercise.
