Welcome to the Geofluids Group
Our mission is to provide solutions for sustainable groundwater management and flexible renewable energy supply based on the need of the society for a sound description of subsurface processes and reference data to assess and manage concurrent use of our environment.
We are specialized in subsurface contaminant transport, hydrogeochemistry of geothermal ressources, safe disposal of (hazardous) waste, and treatment and assesment techniques for recycled materials. In using and developing most advanced experimental and numerical methods we are providing reliable data on our environment.
Working from the microscale to the macroscale we are establishing the link between physical and chemical theories and field scale observations.
Our educational program for students and professionals is tailored to impart leading edge knowledge on the hydrogeochemical processes in groundwater and possible remediation actions.
Adaptation strategies to hydrological extremes
- We combine flood protection and drought prevention
- We develop and implement nature based and technical solutions for groundwater recharge
Renewable energy resources
- We use hydrochemical fingerprints to optimize and to secure the use of renewable energy resources
- We develop methods and strategies to sustain reservoir productivity and integrity
Securing non-renewable resources
- We develop assessment and management strategies for deep groundwater
- We implement virtual sensors to maintain sustainable use of slowly regenerating groundwater resources
