The members of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) have elected Prof Anna-Katharina Hornidge and Prof Jörg E. Drewes as Co-Chairs. We would like to thank our previous Co-Chairs, Prof Sabine Schlacke and Prof Karen Pittel, for their scientific leadership of the WBGU through the past and increasingly turbulent times.
Anna-Katharina Hornidge is Director of the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) and Professor for Global Sustainable Development at the University of Bonn. She is member of the WBGU since 2020.
Jörg E. Drewes holds the Chair of Urban Water Systems Engineering at the Technical University of Munich. He is also member of the WBGU since 2020.
We look forward to an inspiring partnership and congratulate the two new Co-Chairs on their election.
The WBGU was newly appointed by the German Federal Government in November 2024. The appointment period lasts until October 2028. The other members of the WBGU are Aletta Bonn (Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ, Leipzig and German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research, iDiv, Halle-Jena-Leipzig), Kai Maaz (Leibniz-Institute for Research and Information in Education, Frankfurt), Karen Pittel (ifo Institute and LMU Munich), Hans-Otto Pörtner (Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research – AWI, Bremerhaven), Sabine Schlacke (Greifswald University), Claudia Traidl-Hoffmann (Augsburg University) and Joscha Wullweber (Witten/Herdecke University).
