This study provides a comprehensive evaluation of large-scale groundwater flow concepts for the Upper Jurassic aquifer in the South German Molasse Basin. The research integrates data on age dating, hydrochemistry, hydraulics, temperature distribution, and flow systematics, offering a unified perspective on the aquifer’s hydrogeological properties. By addressing contradictory results in previous studies, this review contributes to a better understanding of regional flow systems and potential recharge areas, which are essential for advancing geothermal energy applications.
