All over July Saskia participated in a scientific expedition to Herschel Island (Yukon, Canada), led by the Alfred Wegener Institute Potsdam. She carried out geoelectrical measurements in retrogressive thaw slumps – giant geomorphological features occurring in arctic permafrost and releasing great amounts of sediment and carbon – to gain a better understanding of their long-term behaviour. Also drone flights on these large scaled mass movements as well as a sampling campaign were executed.
Researchers form the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research Potsdam and Helgoland, the Max-Plank-Institute Bremen, the University of Lisbon and the University of Potsdam also were part of this years expedition team.
