On 15 August 2022, four scientists of the Landslide Research Group started into a two-week research stay in Ecuador. After meeting with Dr. Daniel Andrade from the local research partner IG-EPN, the group prepared for field work at Chimborazo volcano. Recently, secondary lahars occurred in the glacier forefield and extended into populated areas. In order to explore the triggering mechanism of these lahars, the team conducted ERT measurements on the debris-covered glacier and performed thermal imaging studies.
Despite high altitudes and strong winds, the effort was rewarded with novel data and fantastic views.
